"Imperfect Square"

"Corporate Meeting"- Up in Canada, they had a problem with snow and ice collecting on the power lines and downing/breaking them (or telephone lines, this was pre-cel phones, I guess).  They called a meeting to brainstorm ideas.  Brainstorm enough and people get tired or crazy, strange ideas get put out.  One brainstorming punch-drunk, as the meeting progressed, suggested getting bears to shake the poles.  Happy to chime in on this silly idea, a person asked, "How are you going to get the bears to shake the power poles (and shake off the accumulated snow and ice that was breaking the line and the reason for the meeting)?"  Another person in the spirit of the lunacy, and the boredom of sitting in a meeting of how to economically deal with the issue of downed lines deep in the isolated tundra, suggested that bowls of honey be placed on top of the poles.  This lead to the discussion of HOW do you get the honey up there, that lead to the quip of using helicopters to deliver the honey...  Which lead to the ultimate end idea and the solution of the meeting of just having helicopters fly out after a storm and the harsh backwash from the main rotor as the copter hover/flew over the lines knocking off the ice and snow, no bears and honey pots needed.  This is why I like creative brainstorming with creative people that can allow the lapse of sometimes silly ideas developing into great ideas.  I appreciate open-minds.

logos works 3.lost.lv

Work from 2009 at Bally.
I do not know if I have permission to display work done for them even now at this late date as a former employee, so if they wish me to take this down, I will ASAP.

Royal symbols - Organs

(on slot machines, they have a great number of symbols spinning around.  There are major and minor symbols... and then there are the Royals. Some companies treat the royals like the red-headed stepchild of reel symbols and just slap the same royals graphics on that they have used for 30 years on every game they produce, and others use them to really solidify the theme and, well, do better on their artistic output and game presentation.  I liked working for the ones that do better, that aren't just try to "do" the game.)

Logo piece 2a

Sorry, made this some many, many moons ago. At 100x100, it may be small but it serves a purpose of showing that small does not mean unreadable or not pretty if you know how.

FCBD 5/12

(the actual art is way better than this scan)
[blame the machinery, so professional]
{it really is awesome in real life, and not inverted and scanned in on a too small scanner, truth}
you are never more alone than when you are in a crowd.
shout out to the tall teen girl with the scars on her arms from wrist to elbow happily jabbering away with her parents in front of me and my son in line at FCBD.

two tests from Maya

I have not been posting any of my 3d work in Maya I have been making, so I thought I'd post two meaningless test renders for some of the less complicated stuff that has not been polished yet. I like them as the bottom one reminds me of Red Rock Canyon where I'd go every weekend with my toddler son.
The top one reminds me of a ink from a '50's comic book.

Watercolor test, and score is fail.

I went out bought some watercolor pencils, having never used them before and amazed at the results this 8 year old art prodigy got (she is one of my son's dearest friends), and I wanted to give it a try.

This was my first try, and it does not show the time and effort I put in to layer and craft the colors. To me, it looks like I could have gotten the same end result if I just randomly splashed the brush around because that is what it looks like I did (I did not...at first).

Even my signature is ticking my off right now.

the Mere Exposure Effect

The Mere Exposure Effect relates to the fact that the repeated exposure to a unfamiliar stimulus increases our liking to it.

I have hope that the Mere Exposure Effect will eventually wear any possible detractors to my artwork down. (Van Gogh was supposedly not hailed too highly in his time, I hear. On the other hand, I might be in for a long, long, long wait.)

some in-progress characters

Some in-progress pages, I just scanned them in and did not clean them up in photoshop (my scanner glass, I've noticed, is both dusty and cracked/scratched). So pardon the mess due to the scan and the rough art at this stage.
